Sometimes the road from where you are to where you want to be, will be longer and more arduous than you anticipated.
At some point your enthusiasm will wane. Your motivation will wobble. You will question if you have what it takes to make it and perhaps why you even wanted this in the first place.
Personal experience has taught me how to keep the fire of desire burning for my future self even during the most challenging of times. Here are two of the tools I recommend.
HAVE A VERY CLEAR VISION
Have a clearly defined vision of your goal, who you want to be and how it will feel when you get there.
When you nurture and invest yourself in this vision every single day, not only will you prime your brain and body for the event ahead of the experience, your devoted attention upon your vision acts like a powerful tether between you and your future. Keep that tether in tact and you will never lose your way.
REWARD YOUR EFFORTS
Dopamine is the brain’s neurotransmitter of motivation. When we consciously reward our efforts in pursuit of our goal, not only does that trigger a ‘feel good’ hit of dopamine which strengthens our will to continue, but we also begin to train our brain to interpret obstacles and challenges not as stop signs but as stepping stones on route to where we want to be.
What are your favourite ways to strength your resolve?
